Our Colombian La Cabana coffee is estate grown on the organically certified Finca Agroberlin, located on Colombia’s highest snow peaked mountain Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta at the northern tip of Colombia. This area is considered one of South America’s richest in biodiversity and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Agroberlin farm produces approximately 2,500 bags of high grade coffee annually at altitudes between 4,500 and 6,000 feet. A portion of the farm is maintained as a natural reserve, providing habitat for endemic and migratory birds, while the rest is planted with several varieties of coffee under the shade cover of native tree species. The farm is currently the site for ongoing field research by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center to determine which shade tree species used in coffee farms attract the greatest variety of insects that serve as food resources for birds.
This special micro-lot coffee is wet processed, fermented, washed and sun dried at the farm, then meticulously milled and graded at the farm’s dry mill in Santa Marta. It offers a rich, full bodied flavor, with medium acidity.
Choose between two available roasts - a bold, earthy French Roast with flavors of roasted pecan, savory black pepper, tobacco and dried dates; or a an extra-dark Italian Roast with deep, smoky flavors.
A portion of all sales of this Bird Friendly Certified coffee is paid to the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center in support of its research and conservation efforts. More information.
