Our organically grown, Bird Friendly® and Fair Trade Certified Nicaragua San Juan Rio Coco offers a smooth, well balanced cup with medium acidity and notes of dark cocoa, brown sugar, toasted oats and walnuts. A subtle winey richness adds depth.
This coffee is sourced from family-owned farms organized around Union de Cooperativas Agropecuarias de San Joan del Rio Coco (UCA), a cooperative operating in the municipality of San Juan de Rio Coco with the departments of Madriz, Esteli and Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua. The Cooperative has 420 members (80 women), who, on average, cultivate 12 acres of coffee. The cooperative provides marketing, technical assistance, and small business lending to all of its members.
Your purchase of this coffee helps support these indigenous farmers in their efforts to improve their communities, as well as the research and conservation efforts of the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center through the payments of royalties on each pound of coffee sold.
